The biggest real difference between a green and a red portfolio is the amount of junk you have to put in. They also have different colors, but they don't apply to teachers as far as I remember - just support staff like guidance. If you're like me and stated on a temporary, they put you in a "red" portfolio.
If you have a permanent certificate, they put you in a "green" portfolio. They have you create this portfolio throughout the year to show what you've learned, etc. They "coach" you throughout the year to make sure you don't die or kill the kids this includes having a mentor teacher to back you up. The other two tests, subject area (to prove you know what you're teaching) and professional educator's (to prove you know how to handle yourself as a professional) you have an additional two years to complete.įor my district, every new teacher is put through this thing called NTIP: New Teacher Induction Program. You MUST have completed the General Knowledge test (to prove you're smarter than a high schooler) before one year is up or they won't hire you back. I may have said this in the previous comment, but once you're issued a temporary certificate (which you get once you've been hired), you have three full years to have it transferred to become a permanent certificate. I don't know how things run in the rest of Florida, so I'm just going to give you a rundown of what happened up here for me in the Panhandle. There is no difference in pay, and only a slight one for responsibilities, but that may only be for my district. They don't actually issue the temporary certificate until after you get hired, which is good because otherwise you could be waiting around for three years with a certificate and no job.
